The inspectors have opened two avenues of investigation In just five years, a total of 7,000 million euros in 500 banknotes have stopped circulating in our country. The Bank of Spain, which monitors these figures monthly, is investigating where that money has gone. The researchers have two hypotheses.  El Confidencial Digital has learned , the Bank of Spain currently has controlled a total of 78.3 billion euros in cash , which are “in motion” within our borders. Of them, more than half are in 500 euro bills. Specifically, and according to the latest record of which the organization is aware, a total of 49,349 million euros in 500-euro banknotes are currently circulating in Spain , which represents more than 63 percent of the total money in circulation . That figure, "despite being very high, is much lower than five years ago , when the record of 56,956 million euros in 500 bills was reached just before the crisis began," technicians from the Bank of Spain, which acknowledges having “lost track” of those close to 7,000 million euros .
